Research Awards

CGNA is pleased to be offering small research grants for members of the Association.  The purpose of the grant is to assist nurses to examine their Gerontological nursing practice. The funding may be used for:

(1) pilot studies which will lead to grant applications to larger funding agencies, or

(2) small studies focused on older adults and nursing for which other funding sources are limited etc.

Submission Deadline for 2012 Competition: April 1, 2012

All members of CGNA are eligible to apply (with the exception of CGNA Executive members and their families). Members without research preparation should include a nurse researcher as a member of the research team or as a consultant. Projects are expected to be conducted under the aegis of a health care agency or educational institution.

Call for Research Committee Members

The CGNA Research committee is recruiting for 2-3 new members to serve two year terms with the committee.

Research Committee Terms of Reference

Purpose
  • To provide advice to CGNA on current research thrusts and gaps.
  • To review research grant applications for which the investigators are seeking endorsement from CGNA and recommend to the CGNA Executive the appropriate action.
  • To determine the recipient(s) of the Annual CGNA Nursing Research Grants.
  • To increase the level of research knowledge among CGNA members in particular and gerontological nurses in general.
  • To stimulate interest in research among CGNA members.
  • To support the scientific review process for the Bi-Annual Scientific and Education Conference of CGNA.

Membership
  • The CGNA Executive will appoint a Chair of the Research Committee for a term of three (3) years. The Chair of the Research Committee will hold a Ph.D. degree, preferably in Nursing.
  • The Chair of the Research Committee will collaborate with the Conference Planning Committee to determine the program requirements for the selection of abstracts for presentation of papers, posters and workshops at the Bi-Annual Scientific and Education Conference. This provides support for the local planning group when it is needed but does not usurp their role and committee structure.
  • The Research Committee shall be composed of at least two (2) members who hold a minimum of a Master’s degree, PhD preferred, for a term of two (2) to three (3) years, with an opportunity to renew membership.
  • Committee members must be CGNA members in good standing for a minimum of two (2) years.
  • The Committee Chair will provide an annual written report to the CGNA Executive.
