The Canadian Gerontological Nursing Association Announces New Conjoint Member – Gerontological Nursing Association Ontario
Ontario, Canada – (July 13, 2011) – The Canadian Gerontological Nursing Association (CGNA) is pleased to announce that the Gerontological Nursing Association Ontario (GNAO) will become a conjoint member of CGNA effective November 1, 2011.
For the past few years, CGNA and GNAO members have been in discussions and negotiations towards the goal of conjoint membership. “These negotiations have not always been easy, but it has always been a pleasure to work with such dedicated and accountable gerontological nurses”, said CGNA Past President, Beverley Laurila, RN, BN, MSA, GNC(C). The magnitude of the impact upon CGNA as an organization is enormous. In the upcoming membership year, CGNA’s membership will be more than double in number, thus giving a stronger national voice to care of older adults by nurses.
Furthermore, Perspectives, a well established peer reviewed Gerontological Nursing Journal published by GNAO, will become a national Journal managed by CGNA. “All members of CGNA will soon receive Perspectives as a benefit of their membership”, said CGNA President, Diane Buchanan, RN, PhD, adding “with the potential for our voice to be bigger and broader, the Journal will speak to efforts that have been done by nurses in different areas of Canada - advocating for older adults, their families and those who work with them”.
GNAO membership cycle will remain as November 1 – October 31. For more information about CGNA membership, please visit www.cgna.net.
