Keynote Speakers:
Beth Perry PhD RN, nurse and author of Moments in Time: Images of Exemplary Nursing Care will provide the opening keynote on Wednesday evening.
Gloria Gutman PhD is an internationally renown gerontologist and a past president of the International Association of Gerontology and Geriatrics. Dr. Gutman will speak on Thursday morning on the topic of environmental health and aging.
Laurie Skreslet, first Canadian to summit Mount Everest, will be our speaker on Friday morning.
Dorothy Pringle PhD RN, is a preeminent Canadian gerontological nurse researcher. Dr. Pringle's address at the Halifax CGNA conference in 2005 provided the inspiration for our theme, and she will be our closing keynote speaker.
Knowledge Transfer Symposium - Dr. Carole Estabrooks and Colleauges Dr. Anne Marie Bostrom and Dr. Susan Slaughter
Dr. Estabrook is Principal Investigator on the TREC (Translating Research In Elder Care) research program funded by the Canadian Institutes of Health Research. She will speak to the importance of nurses in knowledge translation to ensure the best possible care for older adults.
Banquet - Springtime in the Rockies
The 2009 banquet will be held on Friday May 29, 2009 in the beautiful dining room in Donald Cameron Hall on the Banff Centre property. With a breath taking view of the Rockies out the windows, we will enjoy a meal prepared by award winning chefs and some Canadian entertainment - and yes dancing. Remember to bring your cheque book for the silent auction to benefit the CGNA Scholarship Fund.
Preconference Workshops
Two preconference workshops will be available for participants during the afternoon of Wednesday May 27, 2009. Mollie Cole (Clinical Nurse Specialist with Calgary Health Region) will present a workshop on care of the older adult in acute care entitled SENIORS CARE -What Staff Nurses need to know. The second workshop will be presented by Heather Orsted, nurse wound care specialist, on the topic of Knowledge Transfer - Turning Teaching into Learning through Case-Based Activities. Register for the workshops with your conference registration.
